STICKER Motion

STICKER Motion is a compact, wireless LoRaWAN motion detector built for ultra-low-power operation. Powered by two AA batteries, it uses a precise PIR sensor to detect movement and transmit events, making it suitable for security, facility monitoring, retail analytics, and logistics tracking.

STICKER Motion

Typical use cases

Optimizing movement in industrial spaces

  • Monitoring aisles in industrial spaces helps optimize logistics routes for material flow and finished products. It reduces downtime and minimizes safety risks caused by overcrowded paths and unpredictable movement.

Smarter store layouts with motion data

  • In retail, knowing where customers move, and how often, transforms store layout planning and boosts sales. With STICKER Motion, you can track aisle traffic and identify high-traffic areas to optimize product placement and enhance the shopping experience.

Smarter comfort in busy spaces

  • The average person gives off about 100 W of heat. In places with high foot traffic, like waiting rooms, monitoring motion, temperature, and humidity helps maintain comfort and efficiency. STICKER Motion captures all three for smarter climate control.

Example JSON Message

A periodic report as decoded by the v2.0.0 ttn.js decoder (fPort 2). motion_count counts PIR detections, accel_motion_count counts accelerometer motion events, and orientation is the position reported by the accelerometer (1–6).

Status LED

STICKER Motion uses the standard status LED patterns described in LED Indication. The boot carousel, the status heartbeat every 3 seconds, and the NFC and alarm patterns are identical across all STICKER applications.

One detail is specific to this application: the PIR detector and the accelerometer are momentary sensors, so they only ever report an activation, never a return to idle. Each detected motion event therefore shows the green-then-orange activation sequence, and you will never see the orange-then-green release sequence on this unit.

warning

Motion event blinking is a commissioning aid and stops one hour after power-up. A device that no longer blinks on movement is still detecting and reporting it. Power-cycle the unit if you need the visual confirmation back while testing.

Changelog

2026-10-19 – v2.0.0

  • The PIR detector is enabled with cap-gpio-mode pir, which replaces the old cap-pir-detector flag and is not carried over by the upgrade
  • New alarm rule states for the PIR and the accelerometer: from 1 to 1 raises one alarm per episode of motion (motion started, then motion ended once dwell seconds pass without an event), from 0 to 0 reports stillness once dwell seconds pass without an event (for example a machine that must report when it stops vibrating)
  • A RATE rule on a counter now counts within a window of dwell seconds and fires as soon as the count is reached

2025-11-23 – v1.0.0

  • Initial release: PIR motion detection with accelerometer and orientation reporting via LoRaWAN
